Technology easing the Work Culture


Technology is ever-changing and in the thrusts of capitalism, one has to adopt innovative method in ensuring its optimal usage. In the competitive global market, manual work is slowly being replaced by automation and technology.  The prediction of technological advancement and growth of automation was foretold by renowned economists John Maynard Keynes and Wassily Leontief. They predicted a time when artificial intelligence would produce “technological unemployment.” According to them, labor would become less significant and workers would be replaced by machines or artificial intelligence. Automation is ensuring a new wave of labor substitution. Due to new accomplishments in the application of algorithms derived from big data, even occupations involving non-routine cognitive tasks are now increasingly likely to be completed via technology. This rapid advancement of automation has had a negative impact on wage workers and manual workers, bringing up challenges of unemployment and replacement.

The unemployment is often a result of not being able to facilitate the machines, or simply because of the changes in service, which requires technology. The unemployment of the worker can be subsidized by the company. Yes, Change is necessary for a company’s growth and development, however, it must also establish the well being of the workers, which can be facilitated by the company itself.  The work system must adopt and approach that ensures the safekeeping of the workers, along with ensuring maximum optimization of technology.

 


The companies have resorted to reduce and replace man- power with technology. Yes, the adoption of innovative technologies, in companies and organizations, has also stimulated higher productivity and economic growth. According to the report carried on by The Asian Development Bank; which consisted of analysis of 12 developing Asian economies between 2005 and 2015, found that rising demand had more than compensated for jobs lost to automation. The usage of technologies more efficiently, results in reduced costs and enhanced productivity gains, with quality production., the production cost is increased and enhanced, however, the unemployment of labor and alienation is also rapidly increasing because of these changes. The company worker who has spent all his life working in a company, overnight, because his job is now taken over by a robot. This is a questionable stance taken by the company, which often leads to the worker being ostracized, alienated and encountering mental health issues, and often times, resorting to suicide.  The responsibility of a worker is that of a company, thus the company must adopt certain changes, which includes: Trainings, courses on technology, changing HR policies, investment in infrastructure, reimbursement, offering compensation etc.

In conclusion, in this globalized and industrialized economy, companies must adopt an approach that caters to the well being of the employee, along with taking government aid. Human resources are as important as technology. hence, there must be provided alternatives for position, when shifting to newer services. A well formulated policy for the employees, will only result in a happy work environment.
